This is a stunning handcrafted salt box armchair made from solid walnut during the reign of Louis XIV by the second half of the 17th century. This piece was originally made to store salt, while today they are mostly used in hall way and entrance to store shoes. This is a rare and authentic toilet armchair handcrafted from solid walnut at the beginning of the 18th century during the reign of King Louis XIV. This interesting piece features a low seatback flanked by large scrolled armrests upon the folding seat revealing the toilet. Note the bottom-paneled door mounted with its original wrought iron hinges hiding the interior compartment. Overall good condition and for sale as is. Circa date 1700.
